Martin Hlubuček first studied at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Železný Brod, and later at the glass studio at the J. A. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and the sculpture studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. Since 2000 he has been a teacher at the Glassmaking Professional Secondary School in Železný Brod. He is also a freelance artist, working with the fused sculpture and blown glass techniques. He primarily designs interior vases, which typically have simple, often archetypal shapes, combined with subtly colored glass. The “Buoy” vase is from the series of vases of the same name. Their shapes are inspired by these anchored floating bodies. This vase, with its dark blue-black glass, evokes a nighttime atmosphere.
